Land of Emunah

Land of Emunah, in its current form, is a web experience through a fantastical world created by a team of adventurous friends. The players are presented with an overview of the land and begin in a central city. They are given four paths to choose from: land, sea, forest, or desert. From there the player embarks on a journey through the chosen path, facing encounters and choices of how to resolve the situations at hand. As of right now, the experience is short, however, players have the option at the end to contribute to this world with their own imaginations. More is coming to the Land of Emunah, as it is an ongoing and developing project, one of which our team hopes to collaborate with the audience on. 

Being my Thesis Show this past spring during quarantine, the show displays a creative experience for users and contributors to enjoy. I designed the entire layout of the visual experience of the site, aiming to create something simple and clean while still maintaining a fantasy element to the feel of the experience.

Mountain Movers

Being one of my earliest design contributions to the National School Project, this project is still one of my favorites as well as the rest of my team’s favorite. As the first graphic design and media intern for the marketing department of the organization, my team entrusted me with the task of designing our first official department logo. With inspiration from Matthew 17:20, our team wanted to be known as the “Marketing Mountain Movers,” seeking to have the kind of faith that moves mountains through the power of Christ. They also wanted the design to be influenced by Luke 17:5-6, verses about having faith that would cause a mulberry tree to move from the ground into the sea. I incorporated these elements into a design that would host both the mountains and the tree in the sea. With this detail a part of the design, our team is able to be reminded of the type of faith we are seeking to have as we work together on major projects during the year. The team logo is meant to stay as simple and clean as possible in order to create various apparels and products for the entire team to have. The colors of white, red, and black are chosen in order to make the design stand out and easy to read quickly.


Psalm Creatures

The heart of this project was to provide a meaningful way for me to spend time with God while studying the Psalms in a new and enriching way. I have a high fascination and deep devotion for seeking spiritual formation through the arts, allowing art to play a major role in my relationship with God as well as others’ relationship with Him. For this project, I kept a consistent schedule for 150 days to read a psalm through mediation and prayer. During my reflections of the passage, I would then use a small sketchbook and a pencil to illustrate a creature that is designed to embody the emotions and message behind the psalm. Each creature was created with intentions to reveal the essence of the passage as well as my own spiritual conversation with God. These illustrations have been used in personal and group devotionals in order to provide a unique way to spiritual connection with God as well as others.

The project is currently presented as hand-drawn sketches in small books as well as a printed deck of cards with every individual Psalm Creature. I hope to further expand the possibilities of this project and explore other unique ways and mediums to share these creatures with hope of aiding others to deepen their faith and understanding of the psalms.


Return of the Rings Magazine

Based off of a Lord of the Rings movie magazine from my childhood, the Return of the Rings features a reimagined, fantastical, and clean look. This magazine displays the photo aesthetic of the Middle Earth world while the design creates a simple, yet engaging, feel to the magazine as a whole. Formally a school assignment, this project has helped me understand design layouts for magazines and books and how design has the power to create a better reader experience. I explored various setups and styles for the general layout of the magazine, hoping to achieve a look that best aids the written and visual content presented. The article presented deals with the topic of light and dark within the series. With that in mind, I believe I created a design and aesthetic that best highlights the article.


Vanilla Twilight

An identity project based off of my own character in a fantasy roleplaying game, Vanilla Twilight is an imaginative latte, tea, and potions shop. Set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons, this design highlights the characteristics of a young moon elf witch who dreamed of creating her own café that would host her favorite beverage: Vanilla Lattes. My approach for crafting this café’s logo and brand was to create a whimsical design that best represented the character as well as the world she lived in. After researching the background of Dungeon and Dragons as well as Lord of the Rings, I discovered that the medieval styles from both were directly related to the Celtic art of manuscripts, knots, and swirls. I decided to create a unique swirl design that would best represent the playfulness and magical abilities of the character as well as her imagination and ambition. The colors symbolize the persona of the café: relaxing and calm with a hint of magic in the air, using the blues and purple to reflect the peacefulness of the space while yellow brings out the playful, magical nature of the café. This project gave me the opportunity to visually explore the fantasy game of Dungeons and Dragons, creating a fun and engaging brand within the world my friends and I were crafting and narrating ourselves.
